Celta could not add any points at Butarque in an even match decided by one goal scored by Guerrero at the beginning of the second half. Celta pushed hard at the end but did not take advantage of any of its opportunities and take a step back in its fight for a European spot.
Even first half, where Leganes had more presence in dead-ball plays and Celta had a good chance after a header by Iago Aspas that was incredibly stopped by Cuéllar. Sergio also had to make strong efforts to keep his goal unscored in a couple of stops. Celta had more ball possession, but couldn’t get ahead of Leganes which defended well as a team with a lot of intensity, speed and coordination.
After half time Leganes came on the pitch with stronger determination and at the 63 minute mark, after several mistakes by Celta moving the ball up-field, Guerrero scored after a cross pass from the right field. Celta had some chances, specially a shot by Wass in the penalty area that was blocked by Cuellar. Celta’s last efforts did not reap any benefits and the team takes a step back i its fight for a European position.
