Homegrown player Damián Rodríguez has extended his contract with RC Celta until 2028. The player, who recently joined the first team, revalidates his commitment with the club that saw him grow for four more seasons.
In this way, Damián Rodríguez reaches a milestone within the Celta institution and becomes the first player to reach the First Division having passed through each of the categories that make up the youth academy. Few adjectives can describe a player with sky blue blood. A player who, from the roots of the Benjamín B, has climbed each step of the pyramid of this club to become a key figure for Claudio Giráldez’s team.
And something told that in the eyes of that child who arrived at A Madroa at just 7 years of age, there was a story of overcoming, sacrifice and loyalty to the club that proudly watched him grow up. Since then, his quality, his skills in midfield, his vision and his leadership skills have been his main hallmarks.
Damián Rodríguez began his career at RC Celta in Benjamín B, that category full of intact illusions in which, little by little, dreams take shape. That was the starting point of a child who, step by step, became a footballer, passing through Benjamín A, Alevín B, Alevín A, Infantil B, Infantil A, Cadete B, Cadete A, Juvenil B and Juvenil A. A long trajectory through the youth academy demonstrating quality and footballing ability, remarkable qualities with which he was increasingly knocking on the door of professional football.
In the season 2022/23, he joined the ranks of Celta C Gran Peña to, the following season, make the leap to Celta Fortuna. In the Celta reserve team he played a total of 56 games in which he scored 3 goals. His performances earned him the confidence of a coaching staff that also accompanied him in much of his career and that, now as staff of the first team, did not hesitate to give him a chance, did not doubt the ability and quality of a player who was called to be part of the elite. Damián made his debut in the First Division with RC Celta in the victory against Sevilla in the Sánchez Pizjuán last March 17th. At that moment, he was no longer just a kid playing football, he was a young man who knew the meaning of defending this shield.
A whole life linked to RC Celta that shows that this is not just football, it is a feeling of belonging to your roots, to those who saw you grow up, who supported you and accompanied you in every step of your career.
Fourteen years later, Damián Rodríguez has become a source of pride for the youth academy that perfectly represents the philosophy of the club and is a faithful example that dreams can be fulfilled when you work with effort, humility and perseverance.
