Tough end for RC Celta in the seventh round of LALIGA EA SPORTS played at Abanca Balaídos against Atlético de Madrid. Claudio Giráldez’s team was superior throughout the match but in the final minute luck turned its back on them and the red and white team ended up taking the three points.
In the match in which Iago Aspas reached his 500th official match with RC Celta, the sky blue team took the field with grit and managed to put Atlético de Madrid in a corner, which was not able to stop the continuous onslaught of the local team. The first chance of the match was Williot’s after ten minutes, after a cross from Sergio Carreira that won the battle on the flank to Giuliano, but finally the ball went too cross. A first half of high intensity and with continuous arrivals of Celta to the goal of Atlético de Madrid that saw how time passed and they were not able to generate any dangerous action. In the 42nd minute, Abanca Balaídos got up from its seats with a poisoned shot by Iago Aspas, from the front of the area, which was very close to the post but, at the last second, Oblak managed to deflect it.
The second half of the match was a continuation of the intensity of the first, Claudio Giráldez’s men were clear that they were not going to give up, and so it was. Ten minutes after the start, the red and white goalkeeper again saved a close range header by Borja Iglesias who, in the 74th minute, would try again with a bicycle kick. When the referee was about to blow the final whistle, a cross from Griezmann, from the right flank, fell to Julián Álvarez inside the area to score the winning goal for the red and white team.
A hard and cruel end to the match for RC Celta, who deserved more, being far superior to the rival and generating numerous chances to win a match that was decided in the last minute.
