RC Celta shared the points with Deportivo Alavés in their visit to Mendizorroza. A great goal from outside the area by Pablo Durán during the second half brought the scoreboard back to a draw after a bitter start for the celestial team.
The match started with an early blow for the Vigo side. The ball had barely been running for 5 minutes when a penalty in favor of Alavés tipped the balance. A handball by Fran Beltrán in the area allowed Kike García to score from eleven meters and put the locals ahead.
With the advantage, Alavés seemed to dominate during the early stages of the match. However, that intensity began to wane as the first half progressed, giving way to a more settled Celta who, although without much clarity, also tried to find the opposing goal.
The passage through the changing rooms seemed to suit both teams. Celta came out looking for the equalizer and came close to getting it, Williot, who tried his luck from outside the area. A few minutes later, Coudet’s men had their chance, who tried to extend their lead in a fast counterattack led by Carlos Vicente.
The pace of the match intensified and the Celestes began to take the initiative. It would be in one of these attempts when Pablo Durán would give the surprise from the front of the area with a spectacular volley that overcame Owono’s stretch and put the ball in the net. A goal that would seal the game, since, after this performance, neither team would manage to score again.
With this point away from home, Celta now prepares for their next match, also away, against Valencia CF at Mestalla on Sunday, February 2 at 16:30h.
