Four Celta’s first-team players have been called up by their national teams to play in qualifying matches for the upcoming World Cup and the U-21 European Championship. These players are Andrei Radu, Borja Iglesias, Carl Starfelt, and Williot Swedberg, who are currently training with their respective national teams.
Borja Iglesias’ call-up to the Spanish national team is one of the biggest news stories this week. The Celta striker returns to the senior team more than two and a half years after his last appearance. Borja has started the season at such a high level that he has caught the attention of national team coach Luis de la Fuente, who is keen to include him in the two official World Cup qualifying matches that “La Roja” will play:
Saturday 11/10: Spain vs. Georgia (8:45 p.m.)
Tuesday 14/10: Spain vs. Bulgaria (8:45 p.m.)
Andrei Radu also returns to his national team, in his case after two years without wearing the Romanian jersey. The goalkeeper has had a great start to the season in Vigo, showing confidence and character between the sticks. His good form has earned him a return to an international squad, with a friendly and an official match:
Thursday 10/09: Romania vs. Moldova (8:00 PM) – Friendly
Sunday 10/12: Romania vs. Austria (8:45 PM) – World Cup Qualifier
The Swedish national team will also have two sky-blues in attendance. Carl Starfelt has been called up for the qualifying matches against Switzerland and Kosovo, decisive matches for his team’s future on the road to the World Cup:
Friday 10/10: Sweden vs. Switzerland (8:45 p.m.)
Monday 13/10: Sweden vs. Kosovo (8:45 p.m.)
Meanwhile, Williot Swedberg continues to grow with the Swedish U-21 team and will play in two important Euro 2027 qualifying matches:
Friday 10/10: Italy vs. Sweden U-21 (6:15 p.m.)
Sunday 14/10: Sweden U-21 vs. Poland (6:00 p.m.)
