Celta beats Puerto de Vega and advances to the next round of the Copa del Rey (0-2)

RC Celta

Celta sealed their passage to the next round after a match in which they were outnumbered by a rival that showed its solidity from the first minute.

Claudio Giráldez’s team jumped onto the pitch and quickly took control of the match, monopolizing possession and looking for spaces against a Puerto de Vega that defended with very close lines. A wall that seemed insurmountable but in the face of which the sky-blue team knew how to keep calm and mature their game over time. In the first half, opportunities followed one another, highlighting Miguel Román’s shot that grazed the crossbar or the attempts of Hugo González and Mihailo Ristic.

After the break, Celta found the momentum it needed with the entry and debut of Óscar Marcos who in just 4 minutes put the sky-blue team ahead on the scoreboard. The cornerback scored his first goal with the first team with an impeccable header after a brilliant collective action initiated by Cervi and culminated with a precise cross from the baseline.

The team was catching their breath and continuing to stalk the opponent’s area when, in a tackle by Hugo Álvarez, the referee signaled a penalty that Damián Rodríguez would end up converting into the final 0-2.

The match was coming to an end and Celta had added its third consecutive victory, closing the month of October without knowing defeat. In addition, it is worth highlighting the debut of several Celta Fortuna players in this match who performed at a very high level: Hugo González, Óscar Marcos, Pablo Meixús and Andrés Antañón.

Having overcome this first round of the Copa del Rey, Celta will find out its next opponent next Tuesday, November 11, when the draw made by the RFEF will take place.
