Celta secured their place in the UEFA Europa League round of 16 after beating PAOK FC in a tie they dominated from start to finish, winning both the first leg at the feared Toumba Stadium, where no Spanish team had ever won, and the second leg at Abanca Balaídos.
Claudio Giráldez’s side put in a competitive performance over the 180 minutes, dominating possession and showing determination in the opposition’s box to tip both games in their favor.
The tie highlighted the ambition of a young, committed and talented team, with Feito na Madroa as their main hallmark, to continue defending the sky blue badge throughout Europe. And, alongside them, the Celta fans. A fanbase that is always devoted and present, and which has been fundamental in every European challenge.
With their work done, Celta now awaits a new destination. The next chapter will be written tomorrow at the House of European Football in Nyon (Switzerland), where the draw will be held to determine the round of 16 matchups. Possible opponents are Olympique Lyon or Aston Villa FC, two adversaries that will demand the best version of Celta.
Celtismo… Europe continues!
