Sergio Carreira, Estrella Galicia Player of the Month for April

RC Celta

Sergio Carreira has done it again. The Celta full-back has been chosen by the fans as the Best Player of April, winning his second Estrella Galicia award of the season after already claiming it in November. The academy graduate came out on top in the final round of voting against Ilaix Moriba and Williot Swedberg, earning another recognition that rewards not only his performances, but also highlights his effort, commitment, and relentless drive — qualities he shares with the iconic beer brand Hijos de Rivera.

The Vigo-born player received the award with the naturalness of someone who truly understands what it means to wear this shirt. He admitted feeling “very proud” because, as he confessed, he had always seen his teammates displaying the trophy in the dressing room and “you feel a bit jealous because it’s such a cool award.” He also wanted to thank the Celta fans once again for voting for him.

Carreira is enjoying a particularly sweet end to the season and, true to his style, he shares the credit with the group. He says he feels “really good” and thanks his teammates, who, in his words, “help me and make me better”. The full-back acknowledged that it has been a physically demanding season, but stressed the importance of gritting their teeth in the decisive stretch and “giving everything we have left to finish on the highest note possible.”

The award comes at a crucial point in the calendar, with three LaLiga matchdays still to play and the team battling to secure European qualification once again. The academy product summed up the situation with a hopeful statement: “I want to put the finishing touch on the season by achieving that final short-term objective we have.”

And, as could not be otherwise, he finished by once again turning his attention to the stands, aware that it has also been a long — but beautiful — season for the Celta supporters. That is why he asked for “one final push,” convinced that by combining the strength of Abanca Balaídos with the spirit inside the dressing room, the team is going to “finish very strongly.”

Congratulations, Sergio!
