Celta Fortuna’s preseason also tastes like a comeback

RC Celta

It seems some traditions never change in Barreiro. Even in preseason. Celta Fortuna secured their first victory of the summer (3-2) by coming back from 0-2 down against SCU Torreense, a high-caliber opponent who will be playing in the Portuguese Super Cup final against FC Porto in just a few days.

Fredi Álvarez faces the challenge of arriving in peak condition for the start of what promises to be a historic season, and little by little, the team and their ideas are beginning to click. In a squad with a strong presence of youthful faces, the team once again displayed a competitive spirit from start to finish, holding their own against a much more experienced opponent, better prepared for the start of their official competition.

Torreense capitalized on their early dominance to take a two-goal lead before the first quarter of an hour, but Celta Fortuna maintained their focus and, despite the various substitutions and experiments typical at this stage of preseason, found their reward in the final stages. After numerous attempts from virtually the entire attacking line, Álvaro Marín narrowed the gap, equalized from the penalty spot, and completed the comeback at the death, a hat-trick that brings his preseason tally to four goals and keeps alive the spirit of comebacks that are so common in Barreiro.

At this point, the result is secondary, but the stands of the municipal stadium once again vibrated with life and Celta spirit as they accompanied Fortuna in their preparation for a season to remember. The match left very positive signs for a team that continues to grow and that in just three days will play another friendly against FC Vizela on Saturday, August 1st at 6:00 PM in Portugal.
