Real Club Celta, through its RIO1923 project of initiatives linked to its history, creativity, and cultural essence, presents an ode to the city of Vigo with the special “A Reconquista” jersey. The design of this garment features the red and white of Vigo’s flag and the harlequin pattern that characterizes this symbol.
The jersey pays tribute to the episode that forever marked the history of the city of Vigo: the popular uprising of the citizens against Napoleon’s army in 1809.
Our first team will wear this new jersey next Sunday against Alavés to celebrate the upcoming 217th anniversary of the Reconquista of Vigo in a special way. This will not be the only opportunity to see it in action, as it will also be worn in April against Oviedo, in the retro matchday organized by LaLiga.
Although the jersey isn’t associated with a specific era in the club’s history, it does feature elements inspired by its past: the crest, the vibrant colors, and even the numbers, with a special design that includes the Cross of St. James, created specifically for this jersey. As a nod to that era of football, the jerseys for sale also won’t display the players’ names, leaving all the focus on the numbers.
The attention to detail goes even further, with all the elements of the jersey applied in a velvety flocked finish, just as was done with the Oliveira dos Cen Anos edition, which was released exactly one year ago.
The design of the garment was a collaborative effort between Celta Vigo, Hummel, and the creative team at Late Checkout. Its launch will forever be linked to a historic milestone for the club, as it was unveiled on the very night Celta Vigo advanced to the Europa League quarterfinals against Olympique Lyonnais, just days before the Reconquista.
The “A Reconquista de Vigo” jersey comes in special packaging featuring the city’s colors and is available to the general public for €95, the same price as the Oliveira special edition released a year ago. Those who hold the Celta membership card can purchase it with the usual discount for €85.50.
This initiative is accompanied by a capsule collection from RIO1923 under the slogan “Celta de Vigo”, which includes a jersey, cap, special scarf, and other merchandise. The complete collection is now available at Rio1923.gal and in Celta Vigo’s official stores at Abanca Balaídos and A Sede.
