On July 29, 1990, Vigo hosted its first major international concert: the Balaídos stadium was one of the final stops on Madonna’s European Blond Ambition tour. That night, the artist decided to perform with a Celta jersey with Espinosa’s number 5 on the back. This moment, captured by photographer Víctor de las Heras, became an iconic image in the history of both the club and the city.
Years have passed since the concert and the garment has never been seen again, its whereabouts unknown ever since.
Celta now reveals that it had been searching for it privately for years, but the investigation has hit a wall.
Thirty-six years later, the club is launching an appeal to all Celta supporters in order to locate the jersey, with the intention of adding it to its historical archive. For Celta, it is a unique and irreplaceable item that forms part of its emotional heritage.
For this reason, the club welcomes any relevant information regarding the shirt Madonna wore on stage at Balaídos. To this end, the following link has been set up to receive information related to the garment: (LINK: https://rccelta.typeform.com/camiseta1990).
In an effort to exhaust all possible lines of inquiry, Celta has also published an open letter from its president, Marián Mouriño, addressed directly to Madonna, in case she herself might be able to provide relevant information or even still have the jersey.
In the letter, it is announced that the club will dedicate “a gesture of affection” to the artist in a special tribute at Abanca Balaídos this Friday, March 6th at 8:45 p.m., before the Celta – Real Madrid match.
