‘Oliveira dos Cen Anos’ Triumphs in Cannes: Three Golds for RC Celta’s Anthem

RC Celta

‘Oliveira dos Cen Anos’ continues to break records and win hearts. The centenary anthem of RC Celta has won three awards at the prestigious Cannes Lions, being nominated in five categories. This global recognition takes the roots of RC Celta, Galician culture, and the Celeste Boldness beyond the borders of Vigo, Galicia, and Spain. ‘Oliveira dos Cen Anos’ is not just an anthem; it is a global ode to Celtismo.

The three awards were announced at the gala held this Tuesday at the legendary Lumiere Theatre in Cannes. Marián Mouriño and Gael García, RC Celta representatives at the event, accompanied by Antón Álvarez (C. Tangana), Cris Trenas, Santos Bacana, and Rogelio González, the team from Little Spain responsible for producing the anthem’s music video, took to the stage to collect the three awards that position Celta as the most recognized football club in the world by the communications and advertising sector. The Celeste anthem at the Cannes festival outperformed campaigns from well-known brands such as Apple, Volkswagen, Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, and Spotify in its various categories. A complete success for Celtismo, the protagonist of every verse and scene of the music video.

“I have to admit that when Pucho arrived, claiming that this was going to be an international success, I had doubts. A hymn and video in Galician to be awarded and recognized internationally? But someone in the meeting was sure about it, Carlos Mouriño, visionary like few, brave and determined to leave the mark that the centenary deserved. He bet without hesitation, and now we are overwhelmed with emotion. I can only think about why Antón has come so far. He dreams big and can make others dream. And, as Celta fans, we can only be grateful to both of them,” said Marián Mouriño after the gala.

For her part, Cris Trenas, the executive producer of the anthem, said they are “very excited that this piece has connected with so many people far beyond Celta and football. For Little Spain, it was a huge challenge due to the scale and complexity of the production. Ending up in Cannes like this reminds us that emotion is our guide and thrilling our only goal.”

This achievement adds to a series of recognitions that ‘Oliveira dos Cen Anos’ has previously received, including the award for best song in Galician and best music video at the Spanish Music Academy Awards; eight awards at the XXV edition of the National Creativity Awards; a Grand Gold Prize in Brand Content and the Platinum Award for the best Ibero-American campaign at the El Sol Festival; and the award for best music video at the Mestre Mateo Awards. Now, at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2024, it adds three Golds in the categories of best Film Craft, Entertainment Lions for Sport, and Entertainment Lions for Music.

The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, held annually since 1954, brings together the most innovative campaigns in the world of communications. It is a meeting point between creators and the public, and there is no greater connection than the one between RC Celta and its fans. These, and all the previous awards received, are a recognition of Celtismo, a shout of what Boldness and Heart mean, a tribute to those from whom we have inherited the feeling of belonging, family, and Celtismo.

‘Oliveira dos Cen Anos’ is a tangible manifestation of every Celta heart, and having the most important awards in the world of communication and advertising recognize our culture and our roots is an immense pride for the club and for all those with Celeste blood running through their veins. Thank you, Pucho, thank you, fans.
