RC Celta visited the San Mamés stadium in the sixth round of LALIGA EA SPORTS to face Ernesto Valverde’s team.
The match did not start with good news for Claudio Giráldez who, 3 minutes after the start, saw Óscar Mingueza withdraw from the game with discomfort in his left thigh, being replaced by Marcos Alonso. Athletic Club took advantage of these moments of confusion to take the lead in the 4th minute when Guruzeta picked up a lost ball in the Celta area. The lions attacked first but Celta knew how to recover and dominate the game.
They played well, controlled the tempo and looked for the equaliser. It would be in the middle of the first half, when Iago Aspas fell in the area after an action with the goalkeeper that the referee, Sánchez Martínez, pointed out as a penalty. The player from Moaña took advantage of it to level the match. 1 – 1 on the scoreboard and the sky blue attacks continued, this time, Marcos Alonso tried with a good shot that Aguirrezabala saved. Three minutes later, Iago Aspas scored the second after a good pass from Jonathan Bamba but, in the end, it was ruled out for offside. Just before the end of the first half, Berenguer’s cross was headed in by Guruzeta to score Athletic’s second.
It was a bitter blow for Claudio Giráldez’s side on the stroke of half-time when they were clearly dominating the game. A hard blow that could be felt in the early stages of the second half when they could not find a good feeling. Little by little, they were rebuilding, Celta were in possession of the ball and were enjoying the game and posing a real threat to the home side. But, the sky blue onslaught could not find the net and the match was decided, ten minutes before the final whistle, in a counter attack by the red and whites, captained by Iñaki Williams, which Djaló finished off in front of Vicente Guaita to score the third.
This time, it could be and the competition continues. The next match of the calendar will be again at Abanca Balaídos where RC Celta will face Atlético de Madrid next Thursday, September 26th, at 21:00h.
