The effectiveness of Atlético in the right moments, Celta’s lack of precision on the attack and the referee’s mistakes determined the match at Wanda Metropolitano, where the Celta received an excessive punishment. It was an even match. The final scoreboard is not representative of what was offered by both teams on the pitch.
The first half was even, fast-paced and Celta had several chances that it wasn’t able to convert. Sergi Gómez, Tucu Hernández and Iago Aspas had great scoring opportunities against an Atletico that played on the counter-attack and on dead ball plays.
In the last minute of the First Half, a right side corner-kick was deflected in the goal area and Griezmann picked it up to score. The sky-blue players demanded a foul on Tucu on that play that existed and was not whistled.
The second half started off with a penalty on Tucu that was not called. Instances later, Radoja smashed the ball against the post, and on the next play, Vitolo scored for the home team. It was a tough blow for Celta, which was playing a good match and hade several clear scoring chances.
At the 63 minute mark, five mintues after Vitolo’s goal, Correa, again after a deflected ball, scored the third home goal and closed the match. Too much of a punishment for Celta in its debut at Wanda Metropolitano.
