RC Celta

Celta and Lazio have reached an agreement for the transfer of midfielder Matías Vecino, who will wear the Celta crest until June 2027. A full international for Uruguay, Vecino arrives in Vigo after a successful career in Serie A.

With a profile capable of playing both as a central midfielder and a defensive midfielder, Matías stands out for his physical presence, his ball-winning ability, and his excellent passing judgment. His signing fits perfectly into Claudio Giráldez’s playing style, thus strengthening the Celta squad for a crucial part of the season.

Throughout his career, the player has played for Empoli FC, ACF Fiorentina, Cagliari Calcio, Inter Milan, and SS Lazio, accumulating more than 300 appearances in the top tier of Italian football, where he has contributed 29 goals and 21 assists in one of the most demanding competitions in Europe.

Having come through the ranks at Central Español FC, Vecino showcased his potential in Uruguay’s youth national teams, playing a key role in their historic qualification for the 2012 London Olympics, La Celeste’s first appearance since 1928. Shortly after, he established himself as a full international, accumulating a total of 69 matchs.

Now, at Celta, Matías will be reunited with former teammates like Marcos Alonso and Andrei Radu, which will undoubtedly aid his adaptation to both the team and the city.

Celta welcomes Matías Vecino, confident that his experience will bring leadership, physicality, and quality to the midfield, adding significant value to the club’s sporting project.

Welcome, Matías!
