Celta fell 1-2 to CA Osasuna on a night marked by bad weather. After a promising start from the Celestes, the Navarrese made the most of their chances to take all three points, leaving Celta with the feeling of having dominated without it reflecting on the scoreboard.
From the opening whistle, Celta controlled the game and sought to impose their rhythm against an Osasuna side waiting for opportunities on the counterattack. The Vigo team combined sensibly and created chances down the wings, though without finding the depth needed to clearly trouble the opposition. And when the first half seemed destined to end goalless, a measured cross found Budimir in the heart of the box, who headed precisely to put the Rojillos ahead before the break.
The second half brought life to Claudio Giráldez’s side. After the interval, they saw the referee award them a penalty following a VAR review. Borja Iglesias, winner of the 2025 Manuel de Castro Handicap by Estrella Galicia, stepped up and converted from the spot to make it 1-1, reigniting Abanca Balaídos.
With the scores level, the match entered a phase of back-and-forth play. However, midway through the second half, Osasuna struck again with a cross from the right that found Raúl García de Haro, well-positioned, to beat the Celta goalkeeper and restore the lead to his team. In the final minutes, Celta pressed with determination and delivered several crosses into the box, but could not find the goal needed to at least force a draw.
The result does not fully reflect Celta’s dominance, as they were superior for large stretches of the match but paid the price for their lack of efficiency in the final phase. Despite this setback, the Vigo side remain in the fight for European spots and are already looking ahead to their next away game, a clash against RCD Espanyol in Cornellà, which will take place on February 14 at 14:00.
