21 years later… Claudio Giraldez’s pupils beat RCD Mallorca 1-2 thanks to a thrilling second half with goals from Alfon and Fer López; two great goals that certify the team’s good streak of 8 matches without defeat.
The first half got off to a bad start for the Galicians, who were surprised by an early goal from Mallorca. It was in the 16th minute when Valjent took advantage of a free kick to put the locals ahead. Celta, who took the field with a somewhat cautious approach, failed to stop the set piece and, despite Pablo Durán’s efforts to clear the free kick, the ball went straight into the back of the net. From that point on, the minutes passed without any major problems. Celta did not find the necessary clarity to generate clear chances, and although Arrasate’s team was not good either, the scoreboard did not move.
After returning from the locker room, the Celestes came out with a renewed attitude, looking for the comeback from the first minute. They did not have to wait long for the long-awaited equalizer: in the 54th minute, Alfon, with a precise shot from outside the area, scored a great goal that unleashed joy in the visiting stands and balanced the scoreboard. From then on, Celta grew and took control of the match, with a rain of chances that kept the Celtic fans in Son Moix on edge. The clearest, a shot by Pablo Durán in the 57th minute, which almost ended in a goal after a masterful pass by Iago Aspas. The Celtic pressure remained constant and, in the 71st minute, Fer López, who had just joined the team, took advantage of a measured pass from Óscar Mingueza to put his team ahead with another great goal that sentenced the match. Three points that allow RC Celta to continue extending its good moment, accumulating eight consecutive matches without losing.
This comeback in Mallorca has been another example of the strength and determination of the team, which continues to show its quality day after day. Now, the celestial team consolidates its position at the top of the standings and faces with optimism the next match, which will be on April 12 at 18:30h against Espanyol, at Abanca Balaídos.
