Defeat in the first preseason test | Celta 0-2 Famalicão

RC Celta

Celta kicked off the 2025/26 preseason with a 0-2 defeat against FC Famalicão at the Cidade Deportiva Afouteza. It was a typical preseason match, marked by rotations, inconsistent rhythm, and minutes for many players.

In the first half, Radu saved the team in the 17th minute, while Aspas and Jutglà both tried to put Celta ahead, but without success. However, it was Famalicão who broke the deadlock in the 41st minute with a goal just before halftime.

At the start of the second half, Celta returned to the pitch with a completely new lineup. But the next 45 minutes began just like the first half had ended—with a cold shower for the Celestes. In the opening moments, the referee awarded a penalty to the Portuguese side, who converted from the spot to beat Iván Villar and make it 0-2. After that, Mihailo had a good chance to reduce the deficit following a foul on Moriba, and Fran Beltrán also had a go from distance—both efforts were unsuccessful. Famalicão, comfortable with their lead, waited for counterattack opportunities and came close to scoring a third in the final minutes, first hitting the post and then narrowly missing with another effort.

The match ended 0-2, wrapping up Celta’s first preseason test. The team will now continue to fine-tune their game ahead of their next summer fixture: Saturday, July 19, against Sporting Clube de Braga.
