Celta stumble in their league opener against Getafe | Celta 0-2 Getafe

RC Celta

Celta began the season with a painful home defeat against a tough Getafe side. The start of the official competition was marked by a heartfelt tribute that both clubs dedicated to all those affected by the tragic wave of wildfires currently devastating our country. Pain, anger, and all the strength in the world to bring this nightmare to an end as soon as possible.

Once the ball was rolling on the pitch, Claudio Giráldez’s side came out with energy, dominating in the opposition half and pressing a Getafe team that opted for a defensive strategy, with all their players behind the ball. However, as the minutes went by, Celta began to lose ground, and Bordalás’s team pushed forward, toughened their style of play, and ended up dictating the tempo with constant time-wasting tactics. A strategy that paid off when, in the second half, Getafe capitalized on two quick counterattacks to seal the match, leaving Celta with few chances to respond. Despite everything, the sky-blue side kept fighting until the final whistle, and although Iago Aspas had three good chances to equalize, he couldn’t break through David Soria’s wall.
