Celeste defeat at the Martínez Valero. A tough and rocky match, without chances and with very little soccer, in which Elche was more effective than the Vigo team. Coudet’s team went from less to more in the first half and at the start of the second half they seemed to regain strength and clarity in attack. A goal by Benedetto in the 49th minute was a hard blow for the Celestes, who ended up giving up the control of the match to their opponents.
In the final stretch of the match, RC Celta had the chance to level the score. First Galhardo, with a shot that hit the woodwork, and then Iago Aspas with a goal that was disallowed for a controversial handball by the Galician striker. Beyond the defeat, the match against Elche left another bad news, the injury of Brais Méndez due to a traumatism and sprain in his left ankle that could keep him away from his call-up with Spain for the Final Four.
After next week’s break, RC Celta will meet again with its fans at Abanca Balaídos on Sunday, October 17, a match in which the union of Celta and the team will be vital to return to the path of victory.
