RC Celta recovered their identity at San Mamés. Coudet’s team played an outstanding match and deactivated the rival team in one of the most complicated fields in LaLiga.
The Vigo side took the lead after eleven minutes of play. Brais Méndez sent a cross from the right flank that found the back heel of Iago Aspas, a quality touch to send the ball into the back of the net and put RC Celta ahead on the scoreboard. Athletic could not overcome the approach of the team from Vigo, which continued to reach the Bilbao area.
Brais Méndez warned half an hour into the match with a great shot that grazed the post. It was the prelude to one of the goals of the season. In the 36th minute, Fran Beltrán shot from outside the area in a formidable way, giving an effect to the ball that completely disarticulated the local goalkeeper.
After the restart, RC Celta came out determined to keep the 0-2 result. And so it was. The team enjoyed a couple of new chances against an Athletic Club unable to overcome the score against. Great victory to reach 39 points in the standings, one more than last season at this point.
