The first match in the history of RC Celta in the United States ended in a draw and, of course, with Iago Aspas as the scorer. Chacho Coudet’s team drew (1-1) against San Jose Earthquakes, a historic MLS team, at the PayPal Arena.
It was a match typical of preseason, with the pace adjusted to the workload and the scarcity of preparation sessions, with positioning tests, pressure adjustments, massive changes… RC Celta dominated in the first half and took their good performance to the scoreboard in the 38th minute with a penalty goal by Iago Aspas after a clear knockdown in the area to Miguel Baeza.
The U.S. side equalized shortly after from a corner kick with a header by Lopez. That goal tempered the match, which in the second half was flatter and farther away from the penalty area. There was space, however, for another detail of Iago Aspas, a low free kick executed with mastery that ended with the ball hitting the post. And there was time for the debut of the third of the signings who participated in the historic tour: Luca de la Torre played his first minutes as a sky blue.
