The Cidade Deportiva Afouteza hosted Abdoulaye Faye’s official presentation as a Celta player this Tuesday. The Senegalese defender faced the media for the first time alongside Antón Álvarez and Marco Garcés.
Club director Antón Álvarez welcomed the new Celtista and thanked him for believing in the club’s project. Meanwhile, Director of Football Marco Garcés highlighted the defender’s potential and the confidence Celta has in him. “I’d like to add my congratulations. He is one of the brightest young prospects in European football and we believe he will bring many of the qualities we are looking for,” he said.
Clearly excited about this new challenge, Faye explained that joining Celta was an easy decision. “I’ve known Celta since I was young. It’s a great club and I was delighted when they called me. I like the team’s style of play and I’m very happy to be here,” he said.
The centre-back also revealed that his conversation with Claudio Giráldez was key before completing his move to Vigo. “I spoke with the coach before coming and it was a very easy conversation. I really liked what he told me and I thought: yes, I want to come, I’m ready. Now that I’m here, my first impression is very positive. He only asked me to be patient and stay ready, and I know I will be when the time comes to step onto the pitch and give my best.”
Abdoulaye admitted that changing clubs is never easy, having moved several times throughout his career. “It’s not easy to move from one place to another, but the ambition to play makes it easier. Now I’m ready to give everything I have.”
The defender also spoke about his desire to continue improving his Spanish. “I learned a little when I was young and I’d like to keep improving it. For now, I already know a few words, like ‘Sempre Celta!'” he concluded with a smile.
