RC Celta and its fans were very proud and happy to hear that home-grown Iago Aspas has finally been listed to play the World Cup in Russia with Spain this summer. The striker had a marvelous season scoring 22 goals. This has allowed him to tie with Mauro for being the club’s maximum scorer in a season in First Division.
In addition, the homegrown player alongside Maxi Gomez formed the deadliest duo in one the season in the history of Celta by scoring 39 goals in 38 matchdays in LaLiga, tied with the duo formed by Hermidita and Atienza in the 1951/52 season.
Iago Aspas takes the relay from Jorge Otero as a skyblue World Cup player. 24 years later a Celta homegrown player will play with the Spanish jersey with the national team, and in this case as the maximum Spanish national scorer in LaLiga for the second consecutive year.
