Celta was not able to get points in Malaga after a match in which the skyblues controlled ball possession, but were not capable of creating chances of goal against a rival that got ahead in the first half and finished of the game from the penalty spot.
After the first 11 minutes of gameplay, with Malaga dominating, Sergio pulled off a great stop after a close shot from Sandro which spurred Celta into the match. The team from Vigo woke up after that play and started passing the ball accurately, getting closer to the rival’s penalty area.
The local team scored at the 25 minute marker with a great strike from Ontiveros. The skyblues took control of the ball after the goal and locked Malaga in their field without enough depth to make any kind of damage.
After halftime, the woodwork avoided a draw after a great foul kick on behalf of Marcelo Díaz. Soon after, the referee signaled a penalty on Sandro, and Recio scored from the penalty spot for Malaga, giving them a two-goal lead.
Celta increased possession, but was not able to go through Malaga’s defensive wall, tough, well-organized and fast at the counterattack. Sandro scored in injury time to close an exaggerated thrashing.
