Marcos Alonso has become the new member of RC Celta’s backline. The Madrid-born player, who arrives on a free contract after his spell at FC Barcelona, has signed for one season plus an optional one.
The 33-year-old international full-back, a luxury addition to the Celta defence, began his career in football in the youth ranks of Atlético de Madrid and later joined Real Madrid’s youth academy, where he made his first-team debut against Racing Santander. Marcos Alonso is a versatile player, with an extensive sporting career in different European competitions. At the age of 19 he moved to the Premier League where he played for Bolton Wanderers. After three seasons, he signed for Fiorentina, showing a great level that raised the interest of Chelsea, team that would take him back to England in 2016. Finally, in 2022, he joined FC Barcelona where he became a key player for Xavi Hernandez’s side.
On the other hand, he made his debut with the Spanish U-19 national team in 2009, playing a total of 3 games. Meanwhile, in March 2018, he made his debut with the senior national team in a friendly against Argentina. With the Spanish national team, he played a total of 9 matches in which he provided 2 assists, reaching the final of the UEFA Nations League in October 2021.
With the arrival of Marcos Alonso, RC Celta adds to its ranks the experience, security and leadership of a player with a wide vision to shield the Celta defence. A profile with which the team will be strengthened for the EA Sports Laliga 24/25 season in order to increase its competitiveness and performance.
