RC Celta and UD Las Palmas ended March with a 1-1 draw at Abanca Balaídos in a game with alternatives that left the sky blues with a bittersweet taste, but also consolidating their 7-game unbeaten streak. Alfon, MVP of the match, was in charge of putting the locals ahead in the first half and Moleiro of returning the draw to the scoreboard a few minutes after the restart.
Celta took to the field in full dress, wearing a new black kit that paid tribute to A Reconquista, one of Vigo’s most emblematic festivities, which seemed to give the players a boost in the opening minutes. The game began with Claudio Giráldez’s side dominating the game, against an opponent who were dropping off at the back, ready to do damage on the counter-attack, and with Alfon very active, who was not rewarded until stoppage time, when a recovery by Ilaix Moriba allowed the Celestes to mount a quick counter-attack that he did not waste (1-0). The home side’s joy contrasted with that of the away fans, who could take nothing more from the first half than an injury to Cillessen, who had to leave the field on a stretcher after a collision with Borja Iglesias.
After the changing rooms, Las Palmas reacted quickly and in just two minutes equalised thanks to a goal from Alberto Moleiro (1-1). From then on, everything became more balanced. The Yellows stopped defending and began to stretch their lines, which created space and allowed Celta to create even more dangerous situations. Alfon, with a cross-shot, and Moriba, with a dive that Viti saved, tried to give the home side the lead back over the next few minutes, but it was Diego Martínez’s men who, in the 70th minute, momentarily silenced Abanca Balaídos with a goal from Fábio Silva. A goal that ended in a scare, as it was disallowed after a VAR review for offside by McBurnie at the start of the play.
With this point in the locker, the RC Celta continues its positive streak and is already thinking about its next challenge: visiting RCD Mallorca on Saturday 5 April at 18:30h.
