RC Celta lost by the minimum against Sevilla FC in a Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán that was dressed up to say goodbye to one of its great legends, Jesús Navas. The match started with both teams on the pitch welcoming the Sevillian captain, who could not hold back his tears at what was his last game in front of the fans, who said goodbye to him.
With the clock ticking down, RC Celta took control of the ball and quickly took control of the game. The sky blues showed their ability to link up in attack, with Iago Aspas controlling the game and filtering several passes to a colossal Pablo Durán who was constantly looking to break through the opposition defence. However, the goal was not on his side and his clearest chance came back off the post. Shortly afterwards, Tomiño crossed a pass into the heart of the area, but Williot’s shot ended up going over the crossbar. Celta tried everything they could, in a first half full of intent that left the home side with virtually no options.
Claudio Giráldez’s side were unable to make the most of their chances, which they would end up paying for shortly afterwards. At the start of the second half, García Pimienta’s side took to the field with a completely different approach. A new dynamic to which the Celestes were unable to adapt and which resulted in the goal that would end up being decisive. Manu Bueno, after warning on several occasions, received a ball on the edge of the area and, with an accurate shot, put the 1-0 on the scoreboard. From that moment on, Celta tried to look for an equaliser but the Sevilla defence stood firm and the home goalkeeper managed to avoid any surprises in the final minutes.
Now, RC Celta is focused on closing the year with a new victory at Abanca Balaídos against Real Sociedad next Saturday, December 21, at 16:15h.
