RC Celta picked up a valuable point on their visit to Montilivi after a 2-2 draw against Girona FC. The draw was the reflection of a balanced match in which both teams scored one goal per half, leaving a draw on the scoreboard in a high voltage match.
The match started with a setback for the Celestes. Williot, who was attacking down the left flank, suffered a hard tackle from Arnau Martinez in the 17th minute which forced him off the pitch. The injury seemed to have momentarily thrown Claudio Giráldez’s side off the pitch, a situation that Girona took advantage of as they took the lead thanks to Tsygankov in the 20th minute.
The goal did not knock Celta, who reacted quickly and began to create danger. Before the half hour mark, Alfon came close to equalising with a shot that ended up in the hands of the home keeper. Celta’s confidence grew as the clock ticked down and in the 36th minute, Iker Losada took advantage of a great pass from Carreira to score the equaliser. The 14th sky blue closed a spectacular play that allows him to add to his personal locker his first goal after his return and that took the 1-1 to the break.
In the second half, Celta took to the field with the desire to take the three points, and in the 48th minute, with a penalty on Alfon, came the chance they needed. Marcos Alonso, from the 11 meters, did not miss and put Celta ahead (2-1). The sky blue team lead would last until the 67th minute, when Herrera took advantage of a set piece to bring the score back to level terms.
Celta continued to fight to regain the upper hand, with several dangerous approaches, but Michel’s men were also looking for the winning goal. Despite the efforts of both teams, the score remained level and the match ended in a draw.
This result leaves Claudio Giráldez’s side with a bittersweet feeling, but with their sights set on the next match, which will take place on Saturday 8 March at Abanca Balaídos, where the Celta will host CD Leganés in a great sky blue Saturday.
