Celta Fortuna dominates a cruel match against CD Guadalajara (0-1)

RC Celta

Celta Fortuna played their first home game of the 25/26 season, hosting CD Guadalajara at the Estadio de Barreiro. However, the match ended bitterly for the Celta reserve team, who put in a very complete performance, dominating many phases of the game and creating numerous chances.

From the first minute, Fredi Álvarez’s side imposed a high tempo and a clear attacking approach. With several standout players, the sky blues dominated possession and settled into the opposition’s half. Youngster Anxo Rodríguez once again stood out with his solidity in the back three, while in midfield, the combination of Hugo Burcio and Adrià Capdevila provided balance and vision in the build-up play. On the wing, Ángel Arcos was a constant threat and, just before half-time, he produced a spectacular individual move that ended with a cross-shot that went wide by centimetres.

The script was repeated in the second half. Celta Fortuna did not slow down and continued to create danger. Hugo González, Capde and Óscar Marcos had clear chances, but VAR played a decisive role on two occasions: first, by overturning a penalty awarded to Pablo Gavián, and shortly afterwards, by disallowing a great goal by Luis Bilbao for a previous foul.

Despite everything, the Celta reserve team did not give up and continued to take the initiative against a more defensive Guadalajara side, who were looking for their chances on the counterattack. But, with the visitors already down to ten men, football took a cruel turn and, in the 88th minute, Ablanque headed home a long ball from a corner to put the Alcarreños ahead on the scoreboard.

It was a blow for Fredi’s players, and not even a final push or a shot against the crossbar by Óscar Marcos could reverse a result that did not do justice to their good performance.

A cruel ending, but one that does not detract from the great performance of the sky blues, who left a very good impression on the pitch and reflected their identity, ambition and the many reasons they have to continue growing.

Next match: Saturday, 13 September at 6:30 p.m. against AD Mérida at the Estadio Romano José Fouto.
