RC Celta’s President, Carlos Mouriño, delivered the proclamation for the traditional San Roque festivities this evening. These annual celebrations gather thousands of residents from Vigo in the oldest urban pilgrimage in Galicia. In recognition of the club’s 100 years of existence, the celestial president also received the Cultural and Social Brotherhood of San Roque’s medal as an honorary devotee.

“In the year of our Centenary, we find ourselves in this secular urban pilgrimage, the oldest in Galicia. Perhaps it seems like we arrived a bit late, but in reality, we were already here,” stated the president.

Thus, two great and legendary institutions come together in this event that commemorates not only history but also the tradition of Vigo.

Carlos Mouriño concluded his speech by emphasizing, “This unique urban pilgrimage, a tradition that treasures and promotes itself after so many centuries of existence. I want to do so by remembering all the generations of Vigo residents who were once where we are now and who, in one way or another, contributed to its continuity for so many years. We, at Real Club Celta, have the ‘Oliveira dos Cen Anos.’ We, in our city, have the San Roque Pilgrimage. How lucky we are! The scents, the flavors, the attire, the sounds… everything is Galicia, the essence of our Galicia. Let’s all enjoy this precious gem together!”

The celebrations began at 20:30 on Monday, August 14, and will continue until Thursday, August 17. They will include various activities around the San Roque estate for Vigo’s residents to celebrate and enjoy. These activities range from musical performances and craft markets to gastronomic stalls and, of course, religious events around the chapel located on the estate.
