RC Celta

Yesterday was a historic day for Celta, marked by a well-deserved and highly commendable victory over Olympique Lyonnais and the largest away fan turnout in the club’s history in European competition. However, this brilliant and unforgettable qualification for the UEFA Europa League quarterfinals was overshadowed by several deeply regrettable incidents that the club wishes to condemn in the strongest possible terms.

First, the throwing of flares in the section reserved for Celta fans at the Groupama Stadium in Lyon. This incident—and it is necessary to emphasize this—in no way represents Celta, its fans, or the values they embody. Therefore, in addition to condemning and regretting this throwing of flares, the club will do everything in its power to identify those responsible and will take the necessary measures to ensure that such actions are not repeated. The club has contacted the French authorities and Olympique Lyonnais to request footage and identify the fans who threw the flares.

Furthermore, as was done a few days ago under opposite circumstances, the club condemns and deeply regrets the brutal attack suffered by several Celta fans on the streets of Lyon after the match ended. Fortunately, all of them have already returned to Vigo. Celta trusts that local authorities will act without delay to identify the perpetrators.
