Reconquest at Abanca Balaídos | Celta Fortuna 2-1 Bilbao Athletic

RC Celta

Abanca Balaídos became the setting for a morning with a sense of history, where football and the memory of Vigo seemed to go hand in hand. In the midst of the A Reconquista atmosphere, Celta Fortuna ended up defeating Bilbao Athletic 2-1 in a comeback defined by grit, patience and belief, with goals from Hugo González and Bernard Somuah in added time.

The team coached by Fredi Álvarez started with intent from the opening whistle, taking the initiative and stringing together several dangerous moves in the first fifteen minutes. Their territorial dominance was clear, with the Celta B side settled in the opposition half and constantly threatening, although without precision in the final metres. As the minutes went by, Bilbao Athletic tried to balance the game, but without causing major trouble, leaving a first half of clear control for the home side that, despite the good feelings, did not translate into a reward on the scoreboard.

After the break, the match became more even and demanded more from the home defence, with Coke making several important interventions in goal. In that back-and-forth, Bilbao Athletic struck midway through the second half with a goal from Eder García. However, far from giving up, belief and ten minutes of added time allowed the Celta B side, as on so many occasions this season, to once again embrace late drama and turn the game around. The equaliser came from a set piece through Hugo González, and shortly after Bernard Somuah, assisted by Pablo Gavián, completed the comeback that sparked euphoria at Abanca Balaídos.

This victory, full of symbolism amid the Reconquista celebrations, strengthens the team’s competitive identity, consolidates their position in the upper part of the table and provides momentum ahead of their next challenge, an away trip to Real Madrid Castilla, where the Celestes will look to continue their strong run of form.
