Óscar Mingueza has been named to UEFA’s Europa League Team of the Season as a left-back, a recognition of the Celta player’s outstanding performance throughout the continental competition.
The Catalan defender played eleven European matches and logged over 700 minutes on the pitch, a performance marked by his versatility and consistency. Throughout the tournament, he played as a wing-back on both flanks, alternated between different positions on the field, and even occasionally occupied central positions, such as in the match against Lille. He also provided an assist during the group stage match against PAOK at Abanca Balaídos.
The Europa League Team of the Season is completed by Dibu Martínez, Víctor Gómez, Ginter, Morato, Eggestein, McGinn, Rogers, Antony, Buendía, and Igor Jesus.
Óscar Mingueza thus takes over from Sergio Álvarez, who was named the best goalkeeper in Celta Vigo’s previous European campaign in the 2016/17 season.
Celta, who reached the quarterfinals and finished among the top eight teams in the competition, also made their mark in attack. UEFA included Jones El-Abdellaoui’s volley against Ludogorets and Fer López’s incredible hat trick against Red Star Belgrade among the ten best goals of the tournament.
