Celta returned to the stadium where that nine-year-old boy expressed his desire to “score a beautiful goal for the first team.” The A Lomba Stadium hosted the second preseason friendly against Sporting Gijón on Galicia Day. And it was precisely that boy, Iago Aspas, who threaded a pinpoint pass for an alert Hugo González to send the ball into the back of the net, giving Claudio Giráldez’s team the lead.
It was the only goal of a match in which we again saw two completely different starting lineups in each half, and where the Celta manager tested each of his players. It was an afternoon in a familiar setting where Ilaix Moriba and Carl Starfelt played their first minutes of the preseason.
In this way, Celta continues to build positive momentum in a summer that once again brought together past and present in the same place where our captain began to write his story.
The next test on the summer calendar will be on Wednesday, July 29 at 11:00 a.m., at the Afouteza Sports City against Acadèmico de Viseu.
