Celta and Javi Rodríguez have reached an agreement to extend their partnership until June 2030. The defender thus renews his commitment to the club where he grew up and where he has established himself as an important part of Claudio Giráldez’s team.
Born in Poio, Javi joined A Madroa at just seven years old, in the Benjamín B age group. From then on, he progressed through every stage of A Canteira before reaching the first team, making his debut on 1 November 2023 in the Copa del Rey against Turégano CF.
Last season, he made 33 LaLiga EA Sports appearances, 28 of them as a starter, and enjoyed his first taste of European football with 12 UEFA Europa League appearances. His performances earned him his first call-up to the senior Spain national team last summer, fulfilling his dream of making his debut against Iraq, before the national team crossed the Atlantic and went on to win their second star.
He has maintained that level at the start of this season, making four appearances in domestic competition and another in Cyprus, taking his tally to more than 90 official appearances for the Celta first team.
With this renewal, Celta reaffirm their commitment to Feito na Madroa talent and secure the future of a player who combines composure in possession, game-reading ability and courage, embodying the values of A Canteira like few others.
Congratulations, Javi!
