José Maroto and Manuel Villanueva join the proposed renewal of Celta’s governing body, which will be put to a vote on October 20
Celta president Marián Mouriño has proposed the renewal of the club’s Board of Directors, with the appointments to be submitted for approval at the Ordinary and Extraordinary General Shareholders’ Meeting, which will take place on Tuesday, October 20, at the Salón Regio at A Sede.
The proposal includes José Maroto, a Costa Rican businessman with extensive experience in business and sports management, and Manuel Villanueva, a Galician journalist and media professional with a long-standing career in the audiovisual industry. Both join the proposed renewal of the Board, which will be put to a vote by the shareholders.
These changes follow the departure of Xisela Aranda and the decision not to renew José Álvarez once his current term comes to an end. The club wishes to thank both for their dedication, commitment and involvement over the past few years as members of the Board, as well as for their contribution to the development of the Celta project during this period.
The new structure aims to bring together complementary professional profiles with experience in areas such as business management, communications, sport and strategic development, helping to drive the growth and consolidation of the Celta project. The club remains committed to a Board with diverse profiles and proven experience in their respective sectors:
- – Sergio Álvarez, former Celta goalkeeper and co-founder of the Sergio Álvarez Goalkeeper School, run by the Celta Foundation.
– Antón Álvarez, Senior Advisor at Evercom, a creative marketing and communications agency; Trascendent, a strategic sustainability and impact consultancy; and Unlimited Spain, an accelerator for impact-driven startups.
– Carmela Cuevas, Head of Commercial Management Control at Zara (Inditex) and a business angel investor at Velca.
– José Manuel Amoedo, founding partner of the law firm Amoedo & Lago Abogados and lead partner in Pontevedra at the collective law firm Eurix Abogados AIE.
– José Maroto, Costa Rican businessman, co-founder of Mayca S.A. and owner of Sporting FC, a team competing in Costa Rica’s First Division. He also has experience in investment, food service and sports management.
– Manuel Villanueva, a Galician journalist with more than 40 years of professional experience, regarded as one of Spain’s leading television executives after heading Mediaset España’s Content Division for more than two decades. He has extensive experience in audiovisual content management, print journalism, radio, teaching and publishing.
– Miguel Álvarez, CEO of Grupo GES Industrial, managing partner at Marcapital Ventures S.L. and Norfood S.L., startup investor, board member of Club Financiero de Vigo S.A. and trustee of the Celta Foundation.
The final composition of the new Board of Directors will be subject to shareholder approval at the General Shareholders’ Meeting on October 20, scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at A Sede in Vigo.
