Rayo Vallecano VS Celta (3-0) | Summary and goals | Highlights LaLiga EA Sports 26/27

RC Celta

Celta saw their eight-match unbeaten run in LaLiga come to an end following a 3-0 defeat to Rayo Vallecano at the Estadio de Vallecas, a match in which a lack of clinical finishing ultimately proved to be the team’s undoing. Despite creating opportunities to get back into the game, Claudio Giráldez’s side could not find the back of the net and paid a heavy price for the hosts’ efficiency.

Celta began by looking to control possession and keep Rayo away from their own penalty area, but they struggled to maintain any rhythm, allowing the Madrid-based side to gain a foothold in the opposition half. In fact, Radu was forced into several saves to prevent a goal. Yet, despite the pressure from the hosts, Celta managed to carve out chances of their own. Their best opportunity came from a swift transition, with Javi Rueda delivering a cross into the box that Hugo Álvarez very nearly reached, a moment that could have put his team ahead.

Just as the Vigo side appeared to be finding their stride, a turnover while playing out from the back allowed Rayo to launch a counter-attack, which De Frutos converted into the opening goal. After the break, Celta had further chances to equalize but failed to capitalize. Meanwhile, Rayo Vallecano remained ruthless, extending their lead through a second goal from De Frutos. In the closing stages, Unai López took advantage of another turnover in Celta’s half to seal the final 3-0 scoreline.

It was an unfortunate afternoon for Celta, who lacked precision in the final third and conceded too much against an opponent that knew how to make the most of their chances. Now, the team must reset and turn their attention to their next fixture: the fourth matchday of the UEFA Europa League group stage. Celta will host Union Saint-Gilloise this Thursday, November 5, at 21:00, at Abanca Balaídos.
