Celta reaffirms its social commitment by joining an awareness initiative alongside Asotrame (Galician Association of Bone Marrow Transplant Recipients) to promote bone marrow donation in Galicia, coinciding with the commemoration of International Blood Cancer Day.
Through its official channels, the club is sharing an audiovisual piece designed to provide clear and accessible information about bone marrow donation — an anonymous, altruistic and supportive act that can be crucial for patients with blood cancers who require a transplant to move forward with their lives.
The campaign also highlights that anyone between 18 and 40 years old who is in good health can become a donor and offer a new opportunity to patients diagnosed with diseases such as leukemia or lymphoma who do not have a compatible family donor.
The initiative also includes the participation of two academy graduates from our first team. Pablo Durán, who is currently recovering from surgery on his left shoulder, and Yoel Lago are joining this solidarity initiative by lending their image and voice to deliver a message of support and awareness, emphasizing the importance of donation and the simplicity and safety of the process.
The campaign particularly aims to connect with younger audiences, with special attention to the male population. Currently, 64% of people registered in the Spanish Bone Marrow Donor Registry (REDMO) are women; however, the donor profiles most in demand are young men, due to the greater effectiveness they may provide in transplants.
Through this collaboration, Celta continues to promote initiatives with social impact and support organizations committed to improving the quality of life of people and their families. The initiative developed alongside Asotrame will continue in the near future with a new audiovisual piece aimed at further encouraging bone marrow donation in Galicia, where more than 16,000 people are currently registered as donors.
