The presence of academy players in the RC Celta is substantial, regular and with a considerable qualitative weight. For the Celtic fans, who know perfectly well and value the club’s philosophy, it has been a certainty for years. And for the rest of Europe it is already so too. The CIES Football Observatory made public today a detailed and elaborate study that places the Vigo club as the first in the Spanish League in the ranking of minutes played by academy players, understanding as such players who have been in their club for at least three seasons between 15 and 21 years of age.
But RC Celta not only reigns in Spain. Among the clubs in Europe’s top five leagues, none surpasses the sky blue club. There is no greater source of pride for RC Celta, its Foundation and a fan base that passionately supports and sustains this commitment to the quarry as a hallmark of the club.
According to the criteria established by CIES, a total of 13 academy players have participated in RC Celta, accounting for 49 percent of the squad’s playing time. These are impressive figures for a club that for years has made its youth team the cornerstone of its sporting project and that this season also enjoys a second team that has made history by brilliantly qualifying for the play-offs for promotion to the Second Division.
The last academy player to make his debut this season is the central defender Carlos Domínguez, a Vigo native who has worn the sky blue shirt since he was in the youth team, who played the entire match against Villarreal with a remarkable performance.
