Celta has started the second leg of LaLiga the best way possible by defeating Real Sociedad at Anoeta with goals scored by Iago Aspas and Maxi Gómez to finish off a great comeback. Second consecutive win for the sky-blues, who is undefeated in the last four matches.
Celta almost scored right after kick-off through an off-track strike by Maxi Gómez after a good pass by Iago, but at the 10 minute mark, a cross pass from the right was headed by Willian José and Real took the lead. Iago tied the match ten minutes later after a handball by Real’s Juanmi in his area was whistled as a penalty kick. The first half was an even one and both teams had chances. Real could have taken the lead again through William José but missed a penalty shot smashing the cross post at the 25 minute mark.
The best chance for the Vigo team was for Sisto, would could not score against Rulli on the one-and-one. On that same play, a local defender deflected the ball in the penalty area with his hand after a shot by Maxi Gómez.
After halftime nothing changed, a very even match, but with less scoring chances. With 15 minutes to go Celta was clearly on the attack and Maxi Gómez headed the ball to the back of the net masterfully after a good corner-kick by Wass. The sky-blues defended their lead with hustle and efficiency and resisted Real’s final attacks. Great win, second in a row, and fourth match without losing.
