The Cidade Deportiva Afouteza hosted Marcos Alonso’s contract renewal press conference this Saturday. The Celta defender was joined by club board member Sergio Álvarez, who thanked him for his commitment to continue bringing his experience to the team, and by Director of Football Marco Garcés, who publicly highlighted his importance in the dressing room: “It’s obvious what you bring to us, that level of experience and competitiveness”.
During the media Q&A, Marcos explained the reasons behind his decision to continue wearing the sky blue shirt. “We’re building a very exciting project and I wanted to stay here, continue what we’re doing and keep growing as a team and as a club”. The defender admitted that “I didn’t have to think about it much” and said that the atmosphere in the dressing room played a key role, adding that “it also influenced my decision.” He also made it clear that being close to his family, his relationship with the city and the affection of the fans were important factors when deciding to renew.
Marcos also acknowledged that his time in Vigo has changed the way he values the team’s achievements. “Here I’ve learned to celebrate the small victories and to appreciate every single point again, and that’s something really special”.
Looking ahead to the new season, Marcos knows what lies ahead. “The demands will be higher, but we’re focused on continuing to grow as a team and, with hard work, humility and commitment, we know we can achieve great things”, he said.
