Celta suffered a 0-2 defeat to Athletic Club at Abanca Balaídos, in a match that became complicated after conceding two goals in just two minutes.
Claudio Giráldez’s side came out determined to control the game and created an early warning, although it was Athletic who found the breakthrough with two consecutive attacks, as Álex Berenguer and Robert Navarro scored between the 20th and 22nd minutes.
Claudio Giráldez made four changes at half-time and Celta took control of the match. The Sky Blues pushed deep into Athletic’s half and created chances with regularity, but the ball would not go in, while the Basque side managed their advantage well until the final whistle.
Attention now immediately turns to the next fixture, which will take place away from home in midweek. On Thursday, September 3, at 9:00pm, Celta will visit Real Sociedad in the rearranged Matchday 6 fixture, with the firm intention of securing their first win of the season.
