Anxo Rodríguez, a player for Celta Fortuna, has been called up for the first time to the Spanish U-19 team, in recognition of the excellent form the young defender has shown this season.
After making his debut last season with the Celta youth team, it has been this season that Anxo has established himself as a key player in Fredi Álvarez’s squad. The youth player has started in 17 of the 18 games played to date, completing 13 of them, and has become the second field player with the most minutes on the team, behind only Pablo Meixús. His consistency and defensive reliability have allowed him to step up and have an outstanding season, in which he has already scored his first goal against Osasuna Promesas.
This performance has not gone unnoticed by the Spanish national team’s youth ranks, who have included Anxo in the U-19 squad for the match against Italy on Wednesday, January 14, at 2 p.m., at the FIGC complex in Coverciano (Florence, Italy). This is an important match for Paco Gallardo’s team, which is currently fighting to qualify for the 2026 U-19 European Championship.
Alongside Anxo Rodríguez, Andrés Antañón has also been called up again, reinforcing the great work being done at Celta Fortuna and the remarkable competitive level at A Canteira.
