Talent from Madroa, Heading to the U-19 European Championship

RC Celta

In addition to Celta Fortuna’s recent promotion to LaLiga Hypermotion, two players who came up through the A Madroa youth system have now been called up to play for the Spanish national team in the U-19 European Championship.

Andrés Antañón and Anxo Rodríguez have been named by Paco Gallardo to the roster for the continental tournament, which will be held in Wales from June 28 to July 11. This is a recognition of the hard work, growth, and performance of two academy players who perfectly embody the “Feito na Madroa” talent.

Antañón heads into this new international assignment after a spectacular season. A regular on the Spanish national team’s youth squads and a mainstay of the U-19 team throughout the season, the sky-blue midfielder has been a key player for Celta Fortuna all year, in addition to fulfilling his dream of making his LaLiga debut with the first team in the match against Girona FC at Montilivi.

For his part, Anxo Rodríguez continues to build on a progression that led to his debut this year with the Spanish national team. The Pontevedra-born player was called up for the first time in January and has remained a regular ever since, taking part in various U-19 training camps throughout the season.

Both players have already traveled to the training camp to join the rest of the Spanish national team as they prepare for the championship before heading to Wales, where Spain will make its debut on June 28 against the Welsh national team. Denmark and Germany will round out the group stage for the team coached by Paco Gallardo.

We at Celta would like to congratulate Andrés and Anxo on this new step in their careers and wish them the best of luck in a competition that will once again feature Celta players.

Congratulations!
