A 120-minute draw for Celta | Celta 2-2 Académico de Viseu

RC Celta

Celta drew 2-2 with Académico de Viseu in their third pre-season fixture. In an unusual 120-minute friendly, the Sky Blues took the lead twice through Hugo González and Ferran Jutglà, but the Portuguese side managed to level the score before the final whistle.

Claudio Giráldez’s men made a bright start and found the breakthrough early on. In the 8th minute, a good move down the left by Jones El-Abdellaoui ended with a loose ball inside the box, which Hugo González calmly controlled before finishing to open the scoring. Overall, Celta controlled the first half, enjoying most of the possession and creating several dangerous chances, although they were unable to extend their lead before the break.

After half-time, the game changed following the numerous substitutions typical of a pre-season friendly. Académico de Viseu stepped up and equalised with a strike from the edge of the box, but Celta responded quickly. Jutglà won a penalty and confidently converted it to restore the hosts’ advantage. However, as the match entered its closing stages, the Portuguese side also scored from the penalty spot to make it 2-2 in a contest that lasted 120 minutes.

The draw sees Celta continue to build fitness and gain valuable match minutes ahead of the start of the competitive season. Their next challenge will take them to Italy, where they will continue their preparations with another pre-season friendly against US Sassuolo.
