A center defender with a brilliant trajectory, great experience, at both a national and international level, has arrived to the Vigo team. The Mexican defender Néstor Araujo will be a Celta player for the next five seasons after the agreement with the footballer and his club of origin, the Santos Laguna, has been closed.

Araujo (Guadalajara, México; August 29th, 1991) is a reliable center defender, of great physical presence and excellent ball-handling skills. He arrives to Celta backed by a long career full of successes, both in his league and with his national team. In 2016 he received the golden ball in his country for the best defender of the First Division of Mexico and in 2017 was part of the ideal eleven of the highest category of Mexican football.

With the Mexican national squad he has played a total of 25 matches, in which he scored three goals and in the last years he has been listed for his national team regularly. He helped his Mexican national team qualify for the Russian World Cup but an injury has not allowed him to attend this event in last minute.

Besides his presence in his national squad, Néstor Araujo has accumulated matches and titles with the Mexican national squad youth teams: Under-20 champion of the Concacaf, gold medal in the Panamerican Games, and gold medal in the London olympics.

With Santos Laguna, he won two league championships, the last one a few weeks ago, a Mexican Cup and the Cup of Champions. In addition, he also won the Mexican Cup with Cruz Azul.
