Celta earned a point against Málaga CF at Abanca Balaídos (1-1) in a game in which the hosts took the lead before half-time but were unable to hold on to their advantage.
The match began with a tribute on the pitch to mark the signing of the stadium concession agreement between Marián Mouriño and Abel Caballero, followed by a minute’s silence for the passing of Iván Villar’s mother.
Once the game got underway, Celta started with confidence and gradually grew into the match against a well-organised Málaga side. The hosts looked for the opening goal and found it in the 41st minute. Hugo González set up Ferran Jutglà, who fired home from the edge of the box to make it 1-0.
After the break, Celta continued to push for a second and had several chances to extend their lead, but Alfonso Herrero kept them out. Málaga equalised in the 83rd minute when Adrián Niño converted from a corner. Celta pushed until the final whistle, but the score remained unchanged.
With this draw, Celta leaves LaLiga behind for a few days and switches focus to the start of their 2026/27 UEFA Europa League campaign. The team will travel to Cyprus to face Omonia Nicosia at GSP Stadium at 18:45, with a new European adventure getting underway on Wednesday.
